United Parcels recently announced the opening of a new site in Ontario, Canada
As part of a $500 million investment in Canada, United Parcels recently announced that it will build a new site in Kanada, Ontario, Canada to meet growing business needs and serve the rest of the capital, Ottawa.
The new site covers an area of 40,000 square feet and can sort 3,000 packages per hour. The site is equipped with a propane refueling station for alternative fuel vehicles, all of which use LED lights for internal and external lighting to save electricity.
In March of this year, United Parcel CEO David Abney announced that United Parcels will invest more than $500 million in Canada and add more than 1,000 jobs. The investment includes site expansion, technology improvements and alternative fuel vehicles with a total area of over 1 million square feet.
United Parcels invested $125 million to expand the Montreal hub, making it the first automated sorting hub for United Parcel in Canada. After the completion of the new hub, it covers an area of 180,000 square feet and is doubled in size.
Other site expansion projects include the Greater Toronto Area, other parts of Ontario, and site extensions in Quebec, British Columbia, Alberta, and Manitoba.
United Parcel has more than 12,000 employees, 1,100 United Parcel Access Points and 63 sorting centers in Canada with a total area of over 2.3 million square feet.
